Building permits are required by the Town for all aspects of home repair. Permits are required for ANY type of structural improvements including, but not limited to, roofing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical installation or replacement, alterations and additions. Permits are required for replacement of damaged portions of existing structures. Fences, sheds, patios, slabs and driveways also require permits. If there is any question whether a permit is needed for work being performed, call Town Hall prior to beginning work and staff will answer any questions.

ALL PERMITS MUST BE OBTAINED PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF WORK ON A PROPERTY! Work started prior to a permit being issued WILL be subject to PENALTIES.

The Building Department performs inspections for code compliance. Contact the Deputy Town Clerk in the Building Department to schedule an inspection. ALL permits require a final inspection.

To request an inspection, please call 561-689-0370 ext. 2 or email permits@townofhaverhill-fl.gov M-F between 8:00am-2:00pm for next business day.

Projects that do not require a permit: painting, replacing carpets and/or interior tile for single-family homes.

Please keep in mind that if you hire someone to do the work, THEY are to obtain the permit. All contractors working in the Town of Haverhill must register with the Town prior to beginning any work. The Building Department verifies that license and insurance requirements are met.

NOTE: If a resident or property owner is repairing or replacing a fence themselves with the same type of materials and the fence was legally permitted when originally installed, a permit is not required. If a commercial property, or the resident or property owner have hired a contractor to do the work on their behalf, a permit is required. If changing the "material" type of fence they currently have (i.e. chain link fence to wood fence) a permit is required. If installing a new fence or new gate that had never been installed, a permit is required.

Please read Resolution 2021-02 attached for more detailed information.
